BRIEF BIOGRAPHY
Born in Adapazarı in 1937, he graduated from Adapazarı Merkez Hacı Köyü Primary School in the 1948 - 1949 academic year, from Adapazarı Men's Art Institute in the 1956 - 1957 academic year, from Istanbul (Yıldız) Technical School Mechanical Engineering Department in the 1960 - 1961 academic year as a Mechanical Engineer, and from the Mechanical Specialization Class of the same school in the 1961 - 1962 academic year as a Mechanical High Engineer.
After becoming a Mechanical High Engineer, he initially worked as a Study and Project Engineer at the SEKA General Directorate for about 6 months. Later, he transferred to the EBK General Directorate as a Study and Project Engineer. In this institution, he later served as the Chief of Revision and Workshops, Assistant Director of Machinery and Installation, and for 5 years between 1970 - 1975, as the Director of Machinery and Installation.
During these duties, he pushed and utilized all EBK and national resources to undertake domestic projects, manufacturing, installation, and establishment in the fields of refrigeration facilities and equipment, cold storage, and meat combining. Under such efforts and leadership, he realized the establishment and construction of Urfa, Elazığ, Bursa, Kayseri, Kars, and Adana Meat Combinates; Gaziantep, Amasya, Erzincan, Kastamonu, and Bolu Cold Storages; Siverek, Çorum, Çubuk, and Dinar Municipality cold storages; as well as the cold storages of the Naval Academy and various military units, and many thermos and refrigerated transport vehicles. While continuing the construction and establishment of Tatvan, Van, Suluova, Burdur, Sakarya, Ağrı, and Manisa Meat Combinates; Fatsa and Trabzon Fish Combinates; and also the Sincan Meat Packaging and Delicatessen Facility and Chicken Combine under the same conditions in the same institution, he left EBK in March 1975 and transferred to Elazığ DMMA as a lecturer.
During his duty at EBK, he was sent to Cyprus at the end of the Second Peace Operation of Cyprus to bring the industrial facilities in the Liberated Area into working condition and to participate in the establishment of the Cyprus Turkish Industrial Holding Limited Company as part of a TÜBİTAK team under the Prime Ministry's orders.
In the early years of his career as a Mechanical High Engineer, he founded an association in his birthplace village and successfully carried out efforts to bring road, water, and electricity to the village, as well as to build a secondary school and lodgings.
Today, his birthplace, Adapazarı Merkez Hacı Köyü, has become a modern village with its primary and secondary school buildings, lodgings, asphalt road, water, electricity, telephone, agricultural technician, midwife, and various other facilities, exporting many educated and trained compatriots into national service with its seventy households.
During his duty at EBK, he also served as an additional duty as a lecturer at the Men's Technical High School, the Private Zafer Engineering and Architecture School, and later at the Ankara DMMA Engineering and Architecture School.
In addition to these activities, he also engaged in the publication of various books and articles. In March 1975, he left EBK and transferred to Elazığ DMMA as a full-time lecturer and also served as the assistant to the head of the teaching department at the same academy. During this duty, he also completed a competency study titled “Study of Frosting in the Refrigeration Unit of Cold Storages and Investigation of Measures to Reduce Frosting” in lieu of a doctoral thesis under the Temporary Article 12 of the 1184 DMMA Law.
In March 1977, he left Elazığ DMMA and was transferred to Balıkesir DMMA.
He served as a lecturer and assistant to the head of the teaching department at Balıkesir DMMA for the first two and a half years. During this period, he prepared an associate professorship thesis on “Investigating the Possibilities of Using Solar Energy in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Processes” and became an associate professor on November 8, 1979. Meanwhile, he resigned from his position as assistant to the head of the teaching department on November 18, 1979, and continued his duties as the head of the mechanical engineering department and lecturer at the same academy.
After Balıkesir DMMA was integrated into Uludağ University as Balıkesir Engineering Faculty under Law No. 2809 on March 28, 1983, following Decree No. 41 of July 20, 1982, concerning the “Higher Education Institutions Organization Law,” he continued in the same position.
In addition, from June 24, 1988, to July 3, 1992, when Balıkesir University was established, he also served as a member of the Administrative Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Uludağ University.
He was promoted to professorship in the Department of Thermodynamics (Refrigeration) by the Executive Board of the Higher Education Council at its meeting on October 30, 1989, in accordance with Article 8 of Law No. 2547 as amended by Law No. 3455.
He served as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee at the I. Balıkesir Engineering Symposium held on April 26 - 27, 1988, the II. Balıkesir Engineering Symposium held on May 30 - 31, 1991, and also the III. Balıkesir Engineering - Architecture Symposium held on April 10 - 11, 1995.
Prof. Sabri SAVAŞ served as Vice Rector of Balıkesir University from November 17, 1994, until October 25, 1999.
